Listen: Westmeath fans are tempting fate by releasing All-Ireland songs ahead of the Leinster final with Dublin

Tune

We love a good All-Ireland final song as much as the next man, and we can sometimes be heard to break into a bar of ‘The Banner Roar’ or’Dancing at the Crossroads’.

The important thing with both those classics and many others is that they were released as both counties were due to be in action in an All-Ireland final.

So it’s with some surprise that it’s been brought to our attention that some Westmeath musicians have decided to pen a song or two about the county’s Sam Maguire ambitions.

This of course is just days before Westmeath play Dublin in the Leinster football final so you can’t blame the lads for cashing in on a wave of optimism sweeping the Lake County.

We have no problem with dreaming big, but there’s a thin line between hope and delusion.

The songs have been handed into local radio station Midlands 103 and sports editor at the station Will O’Callaghan has been sharing a taste of the content of the various ditty’s on his Twitter page

We’re more impressed with song number two:

Perhaps the CDs will become a part of GAA history like the famous Kerry ‘Five in a row t-shirts’ or maybe it will become the feelgood hit of the summer.

Only time will tell.
