Jim Gavin has described the injury sustained by Davey Byrne in a challenge game with Armagh as regrettable and disappointing.
The Dublin manager confirmed that Byrne had broken his nose – not his eye socket – during an incident before the match with the Orchard county and he said that both players have been spoken to in light of what happened.
Byrne is expected to not take any part of the provincial final with Westmeath and, despite the perceived lack of action being questioned in certain quarters, Gavin stated that the players involved in the incident have chatted since.
“Regrettably, an incident took place before a recent challenge game against Armagh,” the manager said.
“It was disappointing because I think discipline would be a core philosophy of the management teams of both teams involved. Subsequent to that, both players have spoken and they regret what happened and both players are now concentrating on their inter-county careers.
“We spoke to both players and both players have had a chat in recent days together.”
