All-Ireland champions Cuala crash out of Dublin senior hurling championship

Jack O'Toole

All-Ireland club champions Cuala have been dumped from the Dublin senior hurling championship after they went down 3-13 to 1-17 against Kilmacud Crokes in Parnell Park on Sunday.

The defending All-Ireland champions were bidding to win their fourth consecutive Dublin championship but their hopes of achieving such an incredible feat were quickly dashed when Oisin O’Rorke and Ronan Hayes both hammered home first-half goals for Crokes to give the challengers a commanding 2-8 to 0-7 lead at half-time.

Dublin senior footballer Con O’Callaghan chipped in with four points from play, while Sean Moran smashed a 50th minute penalty into the net to mount a second-half comeback, but it was ultimately in vein as Crokes held on to advance to the final for a second year running.

Cuala smashed St. Vincents 4-16 to 2-16 in last year’s championship and the Marino based club fell short again at the penultimate hurdle after they were defeated 2-16 to 0-18 by Ballyboden in the day’s other semi-final.

The county final between Kilmacud and Ballyboden will take place in Parnell Park on Sunday, October 21.
