After the roaring success of 2015’s instalment, the Fenway Classic is coming back.

Mark November 19 on your calendars, because that’s when the 2017 Fenway Classic will make it’s highly anticipated return to the States.

This will mark the second time in three years the home of the Boston Red Sox will play host to the special ‘Super 11’s’ format of hurling, and this time around there will be twice as much action. Dublin will take on Galway in a rematch of the last Classic, while Tipperary will face Clare.

Two years ago Galway scored a memorable 50-47 over the Dubs in a high-octane exhibition battle that was seen by 28,000 fans packed into the stadium. While the American supporters were blown away by the game itself, it was perhaps the mid-game brawl that grabbed most of the headlines.

If you are unfamiliar with ‘Super 11’s’, it is a modified 11-a-side version of hurling in which players can only score by hitting the ball under the crossbar. A goal inside the designated scoring zone is worth three points, while scoring from outside the zone is worth five points.

Tickets for the AIG Fenway Hurling Classic go on sale on Thursday, June 29 at 7am Irish time at www.redsox.com/hurling.
