Dublin GAA club concede relegation from senior championship before play-off

Jack O'Toole

Dublin GAA have confirmed that Parnells GAA have conceded their place in the Dublin Senior A Football Championship just three days before their relegation play-off with Lucan Sarsfields on Sunday.

Parnells were scheduled to play Lucan in the first of two Senior A Football Championship Relegation playoff semi-final matches at O’Toole Park in Crumlin with St. Oliver Plunkett’s set to play Clontarf in the other play-off.

As a result of Parnells forfeit, both games on Sunday have subsequently been cancelled with Parnells conceding relegation to the Dublin Senior B Football Championship while the other three teams will remain in the Senior A championship.

Parnells were comprehensively beaten during their three Group C games with St. Jude’s, St. Sylvester’s and Ballinteer St. John’s all enjoying substantial wins over the Coolock based club as they finished bottom of their group with a minus 48 points difference.

A source from Parnells confirmed to SportsJOE that the club had taken the decision to concede the game out of a desire to move down to the Senior B championship.
