Donegal footballer hailed a hero after saving family from house fire

Quick thinking by All-Ireland winner saves cousin's home

Daniel McLaughlin deserves at least a night or two off from training after this

Thankfully we’ve never had to put our reactions to the test in a major emergency type situation. If the emergency involved staying alive by eating the last of the Roses we could probably manage it, but we don’t think we’d be much use in the event of a housefire.

Luckily for a family in Donegal their cousin Daniel McLaughlin is a freaking hero after he reacted quickest to put out a fire at his aunt’s house in Creeslough.

Sparks from a fire at the home of John and Brid McLaughlin were close to enveloping the house when Daniel came to their aid with a fire extinguisher to put out the early stages of the blaze. Nobody was hurt and the house was mostly just smoke-damaged.

Daniel’s aunt was very happy to have had his intervention, ‘It could have been so much worse but people have been very kind. We don’t want to even think about what might have happened but for Rosaleen and Daniel. We might have had a very different Christmas altogether.’

For some reason we have this song rolling around in our heads now :
