DCU’s Donal Burke sets the tone for emphatic Fitzgibbon triumph with this blistering second-minute strike

The Dublin corner forward shot 1-10 in a standout performance.

DIT’s defence didn’t hold out for long during their Fitzgibbon Cup semi-final defeat to DCU as Donal Burke finished off a flowing move with aplomb to lay down an early marker at Parnell Park.

With less than two minutes on the clock, the Dublin corner forward received a ground pass from John Donnelly and proved too quick for the DIT players, gathering and slamming a low shot into the far corner past Sean Brennan.

Burke top scored with 1-10 on a night when DCU got ahead early and didn’t give DIT much hope, leading 1-7 to 0-7 at half-time.

Peter Hogan came off the bench to score DCU’s second goal and, although Westmeath’s Niall O’Brien – once again impressive – struck a consolation goal for DIT, it meant little in the grand scheme as Eoin Roche’s charges cantered into the final where they will meet UL, following their equally dominant performance over IT Carlow in Waterford.
