Corner back scores superb solo goal in Roscommon SFC match

Jack O'Toole

Clann na nGael defender Darra Pettit scored a wonderful solo goal during Clann’s five-point victory over Roscommon Gaels on Saturday.

Pettit picked up the ball just outside his own half and took off down the pitch where he powered his way through on goal before blasting the ball into the roof of the net.

The strike marked the only goal of the game as Clann prevailed 1-09 to 0-07 winners with the victory maintaining the club’s unbeaten start to the Roscommon SFC championship after the club held on for a one-point win against holders St. Brigid’s in the opening round of the 2018 championship.

Clann have not won the competition since 2015 after winning just two games in the 2016 championship while they were thumped in the 2017 quarter-finals by the Western Gaels.
