Dublin dual star Cormac Costello is set to focus all his energy on football in 2015, leaving a promising hurling career behind him.
The Whitehall Colmcille man has left new Dublin hurling boss Ger Cunningham with a slightly more difficult job by deciding to dedicate his time and talent to Jim Gavin’s plans.
“Unfortunately I don’t think it’s sustainable to do the two of them at a high level, to be honest,” said Costello. “It’s the way the GAA has gone, it’s so demanding on players.
“There’s a lot of time and effort and you’re only cutting yourself in half if you’re doing both.
“Next year anyway I’m focused on football. Hopefully I’ll be a member of the senior football team and we’ll go from there. I’ll only think about next year for now.”
And Costello, who played lined out for Dublin in both the football and hurling All-Ireland minor finals in 2012, is excited to be working with Jason Sherlock who we recently learned would be joining Gavin’s backroom team for 2015.
“I believe he’s going to be involved, it’s brilliant,” said Costello. “I’m looking forward to working with him. Hopefully he’ll show us a few tricks.
“He was a hero, absolutely, who didn’t love Jayo in Dublin?”
