Ellen Clifford, mother of David and Paudie, passes away

Niall McIntyre

Ellen Clifford, the mother of Kerry footballers David and Paudie, has passed away.

Mrs Clifford (nee O’Shea) has passed away after battling an illness.

She is the mother of David, Paudie and Shelly and a wife of Dermot, who is a former referee and the chairman of Fossa GAA club.

A minutes silence was held in her honour in Páirc Uí Chaoimh before Tipperary’s Munster Championship clash with Cork.

“My mam and dad are massive football fans, go to every game,” Paudie told us in an interview last year.

“They go to every club game, anything that’s on,” he said.

Ellen was in Croke Park to see her sons win their first All-Ireland with Kerry last July and again this January, when Fossa defeated Stewartstown Harps of Tyrone in the All-Ireland junior club football final.

David and Paudie were last night both named on the Kerry team to take on Clare in the Munster senior football final this Sunday. It is not yet clear as to whether they will participate in the game.

May she Rest In Peace.
