Clare fans angered at questionable Munster SFC seeding decision

They are not happy.

The Examiner's Eoghan Cormican has written that the Munster council are in favour of seeding the higher-ranked side in the National Football League, rather than the two Munster SFC finalists, and that a vote on the matter will take place next month.

Currently, finalists Kerry and Clare are due to be placed in the semi-finals for next year's Munster SFC, but should the change come in, Cork would be seeded over Clare.

The change is linked to the heavy defeats that the Kingdom have inflicted on the Banner in the last three finals.

Unsurprisingly, Clare fans are not too pleased with the proposal.

Clare's Munster delegate, Bernard Keane, has voiced his displeasure.

He said: “They are proposing seeding the teams based on the previous year’s league placings. I took exception to that.

"What surprised me more than anything else was that I was the only one in the room that objected to this.

"A final decision will be made at the meeting in July. I believe that for Clare football that is a backward step. Some of the older people in this room like myself spent years trying to get rid of a Cork/Kerry monopoly and this is a step towards returning to that.

"We have been as competitive if not more than Cork in the last couple of years. Cork have a greater infrastructure, a greater number of clubs and a great ability to stay above us. Many people in Clare fought for the change for so many years and in one swoop it was nearly wiped out."

He added that he is “is fighting a losing battle”.
