Brazen Galway footballer offers up the classic Junior B excuse to skip training

Can't imagine this went down well

For everyone that is in a WhatsApp, Messenger or Viber group and playing in an amateur team, the following message will resonate.

2019 is the year. This is the year.

No more excuses. No more ‘what ifs’. No more ‘could have beens’.

Everyone is going to be at every training session and everyone is going to give it their all. Starting now. Starting last week.

The best laid plans often go awry, however, especially when you are dealing with a squad of Junior B footballers in January.

Such was the case for one football squad in Galway last week. The coach put the time and place out – Thursday at 8pm, the usual spot – and extended the olive branch to any lads that had not yet made it along for a session.

The response was muted to say the least. Then, just under three hours before training, there was a ping.

‘See you there coach’? No, not quite.

You have to feel for the poor chap who went to all the effort and for the lad that was nursing an 11-pint hangover the next morning.

Training is this Thursday at 8pm though. The usual spot.

There’s still a chance…
