Bookies give Westmeath the same chance of beating Dublin as Gibraltar against Germany

Short, short odds

Now that’s an underdog

Anyone looking to make a few quid on Dublin winning the Leinster title may as well look elsewhere.

Bookmakers Paddy Power have made the boys in blue 1/500 favourites to claim the Delaney Cup when they face fairytale finalists Westmeath in a fortnight’s time.

To put that into context, it’s the same odds given for a Germany victory over football minnows Gibraltar in their recent Euro 2016 qualifier.

Optimists from the Lake County, buoyed by their first ever Championship win over neighbours Meath, might be tempted by the 25/1 about their prospects of what would be one of the biggest upsets in GAA history.

First, they will have to make sure they overcome a 16-point spread, which is by means an easy task given Dublin’s 27 and 19-point wins over Longford and Kildare thus far.
