The Hill will miss this guy when he goes

It’s been a pretty hectic few months in terms of GAA retirements in both football and hurling since the end of the All-Ireland series, and a decision by one of Dublin’s most famous footballing sons on whether to also walk away or keep going should be known later this week.

Bernard Brogan has revealed that older sibling Alan is to meet with Jim Gavin this week to discuss his future with the Leinster champions.

The forward made his debut back in 2001 and has made over 60 appearances for the ‘Boys in Blue’.

Bernard told media at an event in Dublin on Monday that Jim Gavin and the 33 year old will chat this week about the 2015 season, ‘He’s meeting Jim this week, to make that call, whatever is going to happen. I’m hoping he stays on. I think if you’re fit and well and have the legs for it there’s no reason why you shouldn’t keep playing. I’m sure Jim would see the merit in having a guy of his experience around.’

Brogan has suffered with injury in the past few years and his last appearance for Dublin was in their shock All-Ireland semi final loss to Donegal last August. It was widely reported at the time that Brogan had retired but he was quick to play down any such reports

At 33 the clock is certainly ticking in terms of his inter-county career and his younger brother Bernard feels that ultimately the decision will come down to whether Alan can balance the demands of an inter-county career with  his family life,

He has a new baby coming and he has a kid and a new job. They’re all things that he has to talk with the management about if he does need time off.’

We’d really love to see Brogan run out at least one more time in front of Hill 16 and we we’re hoping Jim Gavin can use his powers of persuasion to coax the two time All-Ireland winner back in blue for at least another season.
