AFL star has unfinished business

How much are flights?

Mayo football fans can only dream of what life would be like with a team that is made up of Pearce Hanely and Aidan O’Shea but maybe, just maybe, that possibility may become a reality some day in the near future.

The forward was one of the brightest under-age stars for the county almost ten years ago before making a move to Australia to play AFL with Brisbane Lions.

Mayo haven’t done too badly in his absence, but ahead of an All-Ireland semi final this Sunday with Dublin the 26-year-old has admitted he’d love to be playing in Croke Park this Sunday with his former team-mates at underage.

“I dream about that every year to be honest so I’m trying to look in [to see] where there’s anything in my contract where if I take a year out and go home, if I could do that and still get paid.

“But I’ve always thought about it obviously, growing up playing with Mayo and I would love to join the boys and win an All-Ireland because it’s been so long now for Mayo.”

Tadhg Kennelly of course returned to Ireland to win an all-Ireland with Kerry in 2009 before heading back to Sydney Swans while Tommy Walsh won a title the same year before heading Down Under for a number of seasons

Hanley would be a massive asset to Mayo and whatever about Aidan O’Shea at full-forward we’re not sure any defence would like to have to tackle the Breaffy man and Hanley near the edge of the square.
