Vine: Galatasaray accused of match-fixing after goalkeeper appears to let shot in

It wasn't the hardest shot Wesley Sneijder has ever hit

This doesn’t look good.

Galatasaray took on Genclerbirligi in the Turkish league over the weekend, winning the game 1-0 and going three points clear the top of the table with two games remaining.

However, the club are been accused of match-fixing, after their opponent’s keeper appeared to let Wesley Sneijder’s shot in. Ferhat Kaplan dived, but looked to to move his hand out of the way as the ball rolled into the net.

Genclerbirligi’s club president has admitted Kaplan “could have reached out better” to stop the shot, but denied any foul play involved, saying his player is: “an honest goalkeeper and has character.”

Some aren’t convinced though.

Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba, now at Gala’s rivals Besiktas, tweeted after goal with a message that seemed aimed at those involved, (or he was just pondering on life itself), and Turkey’s previous record on match-fixing is unlikely to lift his spirits.

Fenerbahce were banned from three seasons of European competition by UEFA following a match-fixing scandal in 2011, when 19 matches were investigated.

Hopefully, for Kaplan, Genclerbirligi and the sake of Turkish football, he’s just an awful goalkeeper.
