Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou sense of restraint, Romeo?
Over the weekend, one unsavoury incident in America’s answer to League One, the United Soccer League, caught our attention.
Towards the end of of New York Red Bulls II’s 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh Riverhounds (God, we love American team names), two players – Karl Ouimette of the Red Bulls and Romeo Parkes from the Riverhounds – were given their marching orders.
Like the commentator in the video below, we have no idea why the pair were sent off, but what followed was truly shocking.
With Ouimette trudging off the field, Parkes launches an astonishing attack on the defender with a ferocious studs-up kick to his back.
“Oh and Parkes has gone dirty,” the commentator says, summing it up perfectly.
Having immediately fallen to the floor following the kick, Ouimette was later removed from the field on a stretcher.
After the game, Parkes was full of remorse…

It’s unlikely that the apology will prevent Parkes from getting a lengthy ban.
