Transfer talk: Moneybags Chelsea throw their hat in the ring for Sterling and consider Falcao loan

We'll take him, and him, and him

Sterling leaving Liverpool? We’re surprised nobody’s picked up on that.

The Reds winger has dominated headlines since news broke that he was set to turn down any contract offer that would see him remain at Anfield beyond this summer.

Manchester City and Arsenal were clear favourites to secure the signature of the 20-year-old, who received boos as he picked up Liverpool’s young player of the year award last night.

But it seems that Chelsea have now entered the race for the versatile winger and reports in today’s Daily Star claim that the Blues are willing to offload both Oscar and Juan Cuadrado in order to raise the funds to bring Sterling to London, which is where he spent a lot of his childhood.

Man City could beat Chelsea to the player in terms of spending power but the suggestions that Sterling is keen on a move to a London club could make Chelsea the new favourites for the €50 million player.

Just as Sterling is unlikely to play another home game at Anfield, Manchester United’s Radamel Falcao’s time at Old Trafford appears to be well and truly over.

The Colombian forward failed to impress in a season-long loan deal with the Red Devils but that hasn’t turned Chelsea off the Monaco striker.

This morning’s Daily Mail report that the reigning Premier League champions are willing to take him on loan for the 2015-16 season as they consider letting Didier Drogba go.

Jose Mourinho is aware that he will need cover for current first-choice striker Diego Costa due to his persistent injuries and inevitable suspensions and a forward with proven European experience, like Falcao, fits the bill.

In terms of arrivals at Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal is likely to go double Dutch in a bid to replace David de Gea if the Spaniard cannot be persuaded to stay in Manchester.

Jasper Cillessen could become the second Dutch signing that LVG brings into the Premier League fold after Memphis Depay passed a medical this week.

The Ajax stopper will be recognisable from last summer when he was the fall guy as van Gaal subbed Tim Krul on for the quarter-final penalty shootout with Costa Rica.

He is just the latest goalkeeper to be linked with a move to Manchester United after Petr Cech, Hugo Lloris and Louis van Gaal’s dog. (Daily Mirror)

Juventus v UC Sampdoria - Serie A

According to reports in Italy, Liverpool could be set to replace the bog-standard haircut of Steven Gerrard with the freakishly over-elaborate bazzer of Arturo Vidal in midfield.

The Juventus playmaker is one of Brendan Rodgers prime targets this summer and it’s thought that the Reds have already tabled a bid of €20 million for the Chilean but the Champions League finalists are holding out for something closer to €35 million.

Apparently the Old Lady are more focused on hanging on to Paul Pogba when the transfer window opens. Not sure if you’ve heard that he’s quite a popular young man.

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

Meanwhile the goalkeeping situation at the Emirates looks to be sorting itself out with Petr Cech coming in and Wojciech Szczesny leaving.

The Daily Mail report that the Gunners have opened talks with the Chelsea number 2 over a proposed €14 million move across London.

That leaves the door open for castaway Szczesny to part company with Arsene Wenger & Co amid reports that Southampton would be willing to offer a lifeline to the Polish stopper.
