Uruguay are attempting to capitalise on the recent Fifa scandal to help their talisman out of a bind.

The Uruguayan Footballers’ Union (MUFP) are trying to appeal Suarez’s suspension for biting Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 reconsidered following the allegations of corruption by Fifa.

Suarez was banned for four months from all football-related activities, which caused his Barcelona debut to be delayed, despite the case being appealed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The ban also resulted in the striker being banned for nine competitive international games, which means with the way things currently stand, he will not feature in this summer’s Copa America.

However, the MUFP are contemplating the possibility of having the ban quashed on the basis that FIFA has been discredited, but only if Suarez agrees.

The MUFP were quoted in the Mirror saying,

“If Luis Suarez is in agreement. We will ask for the end of the suspension… due to [the player] having been suspended by an organ suspected of corruption.”

“It doesn’t matter that the clubs have withdrawn their complaints because of external pressures, it is time to unite and fight so that justice is done with their funds and the Suarez sanction.

“He was a victim, without doubt, of this alleged corruption.”
