Robin van Persie’s first goal for Fenerbahce was fairly controversial

Robin van Persie is off the mark for his new club, but perhaps his first goal for Fenerbahce should not have stood.

RVP scored a late winner for the Turkish outfit during their Europa League qualification match against Atromitos.

The score was dead-locked at 0-0 when the Dutch man nodded in an 11th hour winner to grab the win, and a vital away goal for Fenerbahce. His headed effort was the first goal van Persie has scored since making the move from Manchester United during the summer.

However, Atromitos may have the right to feel aggrieved. Replays appear to show that van Persie fouled an opposing defender before finding the net.

The striker placed two hands on the player’s back and looked to have shoved the defender in order to make space before guiding the ball into the net.

Judging by the evidence above, Atromitos might have been a tad unfortunate to lose the match.
