Report: Sergio Ramos tells Real Madrid he wants to join Manchester United

Manchester United have bid £28.5 million for Sergio Ramos.

And the player, according to Sky Sports’ sources, has told Real Madrid he wants to join United.

Spanish football expert Graham Hunter told the channel that a bid from United prompted Madrid to tell the player of the club’s interest.

Ramos, when informed of the €40 million bid, reportedly said he wants to move to Old Trafford, and wants the deal sorted soon.

Hunter says Ramos isn’t merely looking to strengthen his hand for contract renewal talks with Madrid, but made it “completely clear” he wants them to accept United’s bid.

The player has been linked with a move to United for some time, potentially as part of the deal that takes goalkeeper David de Gea to Real Madrid, but this is the first sign the player has committed to a transfer to Old Trafford.

The 29 year old centre-half signed for Madrid in 2005, and was considered among the most influential figures among the playing staff, but now looks to be on his way out. Ramos currently has two years remaining on his contract, but it’s rare for Madrid to not extend a first-team player’s contract when it’s so close to expiring.

While Hunter also said new Madrid manager Rafa Benitez will want the situation sorted before the club travel for a pre-season trip to Australia on July 11th.

It seems issues over salary, a delay in offering a new deal, and a falling out with club president Florentino Perez, is the source of Ramos’ unhappiness at the club, and United are hoping to capitalise.

Hunter says Ramos “actively wants to join Manchester United”, and only wants to sign for United.
