Notts County have banned Hungary from posting on their club’s official Facebook page. That’s Hungary, as in the entire European country of almost 10 million people.
The League One side took the step after their latest signing, Hungarian Balint Bajner, led to a barrage of comments on their posts. Within two days of signing, Notts County’s page had over 4,500 new likes, with one post receiving over 1,000 likes when it was announced Bajner was about to come on as a substitute.
Most of the comments were: ‘No Bajner, no party’. Jamie Dixon, the club’s head of media, said: ‘Anything we posted got a good number of Balint Bajner posts within a few minutes and it just grew and grew’.
‘It was all taken in good fun but then we did have to appreciate that it was blurring the waters for everyone else on the page’.
‘We had to take the rather drastic step of blocking Hungary.
However, blocking the entire country doesn’t seem to have worked. Notts County posted tonight ahead of this weekend’s game, asking for fans to predict the score, attendance and goalscorers in this weekend’s game and almost 700 people have posted so far saying: ‘#NoHungaryNoParty’.
