New Everton signing has a shot at Liverpool fans over ‘Never Walk Alone’ tattoo

Jack O'Toole

Everton signed Barcelona left-back Lucas Digne to a five-year deal on Wednesday but the French international is already receiving a lot of grief for one of his tattoos.

Digne has the words ‘I Never Walk Alone’ tattooed on his chest which is very similar to the Gerry & The Pacemakers classic You’ll Never Walk Alone, an adopted anthem of rivals Liverpool.

Reds fans were quick to highlight the coincidental nature of Digne’s tattoo and the defender dismissed that he had inked the piece on his chest in tribute to Liverpool or the club’s famous song and added that he had rejected moves to Anfield in the past.

“There is nothing about football, it is just about my parents,” Digne told reporters.

“When I go for my first day at school when I was three or four years old they gave me a necklace with these words on.

“After when I was 18-years-old in Lille I got a tattoo and maybe the Liverpool fans are angry because I said, two times, ‘no’ to sign for Liverpool.

“Two times, the first after Lille when I went to Paris and the second time was after Rome. I said two times ‘no’ because I am a Blue.”
