Martin O’Neill full of praise for Jack Byrne as he invites him to train with senior squad

Jack Byrne wasn't among the 40 players named in Martin O'Neill's provisional squad for the upcoming Republic of Ireland friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia. However he is expected to train with the senior players when they convene in Abbotstown in less than two weeks. The Ireland manager spoke warmly of the young midfielder on Friday at FAI HQ in Abbotstown, and was particularly impressed with his decision to go out on loan. "He's doing very well. I've not seen him personally, but obviously I've got the DVDs of his performances," O'Neill said. "He's definitely one that you would feel that in the future time should come through and make it.""He's got a lot of natural talent, which he's shown. And at least he's made the effort to go out on loan to try further his career and to try make himself a more experienced player. Well done to him for that." The 19 year old Dubliner is currently on-loan from Manchester City with Dutch outfit Cambuur, and was named in the Ireland U21 squad for the upcoming UEFA U21 Championship Qualifying Round Group 2 ties against Italy and Slovenia.
