The writing is daubed on the wall and Marcor Rojo has read it.
The Argentine defender is set for a €12m [£10.2m] switch to Valencia in the coming days after he was told he had no future at Manchester United.
Rojo failed to command a regular starting spot during his two seasons at Old Trafford. He was mostly played, by Louis van Gaal, as a left back but often deputised as centre-half during his first season with the club.
United are keen to move Rojo, and his £120,000-a-week salary, off their books so several loan proposals, from England, Italy and Spain, were rejected.
Valencia chairman Peter Lim has, according to Deporte Valenciano, given the go-ahead for Rojo. He will not be unveiled as a new player, however, unless Arsenal meet Valencia’s €30m [£26m] valuation of Shkodran Mustafi.
Mustafi is one of Arsenal’s primary transfer targets but there has been a healthy amount of haggling between the two clubs over a transfer fee.
The Gunners have looked at Jonny Evans and Phil Jones as back-up options but Jose Mourinho is not supposed to be keen on selling the latter to ease Arsene Wenger’s defensive issues.
Wonder id Arsene would take Rojo instead?
