First the derby loss, then Feyenoord, then Watford, now this.
It’s been a sobering couple of weeks for the Manchester United players. Humbled by cross town rivals Manchester City in the derby, then beaten in the Europa League in Rotterdam and then to cap it all off they were trounced 3-1 at Vicarage Road on Sunday in a listless performance that saw fans and pundits questioning whether Jose Mourinho’s methods are still working.
Three defeats on the bounce and apparently a mole in the camp leaking gossip about Mourinho to the papers.
Tough times at Old Trafford.
Some might say the perfect tonic to such a run is a League Cup tie to some lowly opposition. Step forward, League One’s Northampton Town – the opposition for one of United’s most famous cup wins in the 1970s when George Best scored six in an 8-2 win.
But of course playing lower league opposition means the facilities aren’t quite up there with the five-star standard Premier League players are used to.
Or maybe Mourinho is just fed up with the lot of them and ordered them to train in this car park.
And here’s the boss:
Or maybe Jose is road testing a new TV concept… “You can do it in a pub car park!”
