Manchester United on the verge of signing teenage winger

Deal is '90% complete'

Simon Lloyd

Jose Mourinho wants a winger. That much we already knew.

He repeated this during his press conference on Friday, ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League opener against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

With Gareth Bale seemingly set for a stay at Real Madrid, most expect United to finally complete a deal for Ivan Perisic – Internazionale’s Croatian winger – in the days ahead. By the sounds of things, though, United are also set to complete a move for another wide player.

The name Bruno Amorim will almost certainly mean nothing to vast majority of those that will cram into Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. There’s good reason for this, too. Still just 19, Amorim has been plying his trade with Oliveirense in the Portuguese second division. So far, he has only played four professional games for the club.

Despite this, it appears the youngster has done enough to alert the attention of United’s scouts. As pointed out by Sport Witness, quotes from Oliveirense’s communications director, António José Leite, appear on Notícias ao Minuto (via Agência Lusa) which suggest a deal to take him to Old Trafford is nearing completion.

“He had been promoted to the main squad but the scouting was already alert and decided to take him there. At this time the business is 90% done and he may have an excellent contract ahead. The contract will shortly be announced, but he is a future bet at United.”

Clearly, the attacker’s inexperience means he’s likely to join United’s Under-23 squad to begin with, not the first team. Don’t expect this to get in the way of a move for Perisic.
