Manchester United begin talks with Bordeaux over Brazilian starlet Malcom

Malcom

He’d be a cracking signing.

The January transfer window is notoriously difficult for managers when it comes to signing top players, but Manchester United look to edging closer to what would be a hugely exciting piece of business.

The club have opened talks with Bordeaux over the signing of highly-rated Brazilian prospect Malcom, according to the Daily Mail.

The two clubs have entered into discussions regarding a deal which would see United sign Malcom in January but loan him back to the Ligue 1 side until the end of the season.

The price may be a sticking point. Bordeaux are demanding around €56million for the 20-year-old attacker, but United are offering to pay closer to €37m.

Malcom joined Bordeaux from Corinthians in January last year and has caught the eye with his performances, particularly in recent months by scoring seven goals in the current league campaign.

Mourinho, who is keen to add quality to his side in January following a recent dip in form which has seen defeats to Manchester City and Bristol City, reportedly believes Malcom has the skillset to become a Premier League hit.

Arsenal have also scouted the player, but it looks as though United are the clear frontrunners for the right winger, who would add plenty of creativity, pace and dynamism to the first-team.

The reports which came out on Christmas Day appear to align with a previous report from The Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles, claiming that Mourinho had instructed United to pursue the signing of Malcom.

With several outlets reporting United’s interest, the story appears to have some substance. Of course, if you’re a United fan, you’ll know full well not to get excited about a signing until they have actually signed.

But, just in case he does sign, remember that it’s spelled Malcom, not Malcolm. There is no ‘l’.
