Wait, what?

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Cesc Fabregas, a player linked with a move to Old Trafford when at Barcelona in 2013.

As David Moyes has been telling anyone who’ll listen ever since, United couldn’t sort a deal for Fabregas (or Toni Kroos; or Cristiano Ronaldo; or Gareth Bale) that summer. He stayed put at Barca, only to move to Chelsea a year later.

Now though, according to Tuesday’s back page in The Times, United are sniffing round the Spaniard once again – so much so that Chelsea are preparing an extended contract for him to prolong his stay at Stamford Bridge and fend off interest from Mourinho.

The report states that the United manager views Fabregas, who has 18 months to run on his current Chelsea deal, as an alternative to Mesut Özil, who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester in recent weeks.

Fabregas is said to have been given assurances by Antonio Conte over his future after the summer arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco. As well as this, the report claims that Conte is now pushing for a new deal for the former Arsenal midfielder.
