Manchester City video showing Gabriel Jesus set alight backfires spectacularly

This isn't quite the reaction Manchester City were hoping for

We kind of know where they were going with this, but it didn’t pan out quite as they were hoping.

Gabriel Jesus has been something of a revelation since finally joining up with his Manchester City teammates last month. His first three Premier League games have resulted in three goals and two assists – not bad for a 19-year-old new to the rigours of European football.

Ahead of their game at Bournemouth on Monday night, the social bods at the Etihad decided to capitalise on Jesus’ sensational form with a fancy special FX gif. They decided to run with the whole fire emoji thing, but perhaps went a little too far in taking it extremely literally.

The resulting effort shows Jesus wheeling away from another goal, but actually on fire, with Manchester City fans cheering in the background. If they aimed to elicit a reaction it certainly worked, although it perhaps wasn’t what they had hoped for. The response ranged from what-were-they-thinking hilarity, sheer bemusement and even distaste…
