Manchester City fans mock United for missing out on major La Liga transfer target

City fans are loving it

Manchester City fans believe they’ve got the edge.

Both Manchester clubs are likely to spend very big indeed this summer, with some experts suggesting that their joint outlay could top £500m. With no major tournament this close season, the battle to nab the biggest stars in the game can begin in earnest, and it is most definitely the Citizens who have stolen a march on their Europa League winning counterparts.

Before the domestic season was allowed to culminate in the FA Cup between Arsenal and Chelsea, Pep Guardiola had already managed a real coup by securing the services of Monaco’s sparkling little playmaker, Bernardo Silva. And be under no illusions, the 22-year-old Portuguese has the ability to be one of the very best players in the world. He’s that good.

Manchester United fans consoled themselves in the fact that they’ve been heavily linked with Atletico Madrid’s sensational Antoine Griezmann, who had openly admitted that there was a 6/10 likelihood of him ending up at Old Trafford. But since then, he has back-pedalled somewhat and asked his Atleti fans not to believe everything they read in the press.

Another player who Jose Mourinho has reportedly been tracking is Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata. In fact a number of stories both in England and Spain suggested that the United manager wanted the 24-year-old marksman as the makeweight in any negotiations with Real for David de Gea. The Red Devils have struggled to find the net, and Morata was seen as an ideal solution.

But Saturday, Sky Sports reported that AC Milan had won the race for the Spanish marksman, who has previous experience in Serie A via Juventus. In fact, Sky man Kaveh Solhekol claims that Morata actually turned down United in order to join the Rossoneri.

As with any rumour during the silly season, it probably needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. But that hasn’t stopped Manchester City fans from taking the piss out of their red counterparts, and their supposed inability to sign one of their rumoured top targets. Anything to get one over their city rivals…
