No signs of an obvious rift from the statements released by Ryland Morgans or Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool’s season has been pock-marked by fitness headaches and praise for the club’s high-tempo tactics.
Jurgen Klopp initiated a fitness dictat upon his arrival at Anfield – every single player needed to up their cardio-vascular out-put and increase their work-rate.
There was a spate of hamstring injuries and some pointed the finger at Klopp for pressing for too much, too soon.
The fingers will no longer be pointed at Morgans, at least. After four year’s in Liverpool, the club’s head of fitness and conditioning is now a former employee.
Morgans was brought to the club by Brendan Rodgers. His contract was up in the summer but he is off to seek new challenges. On the Liverpool website, Morgans commented:
“This has been an extremely difficult decision to reach, but I feel now is the right time to move on.
“I will always be grateful to Brendan Rodgers for giving me the opportunity to work at the highest club level of the game alongside some of the biggest figures in the industry.
“There have been some amazing experiences along the way and to serve a club of this stature is an honour and a privilege I will never forget. However, professionally, it is time to seek a new challenge.
“Finally, I would like to thank the club and Ian Ayre for their support during my time and wish Jurgen Klopp, the staff at Melwood and the supporters all the best for the future and every success for the remainder of the season.”
Andy O’Boyle, fitness coach for Liverpool U21s, will step up to first team duties until the end of the season. Klopp will then make a call on a permanent fitness coach over the summer. Klopp said:
“Ryland is a fantastic professional and a really good guy. Wherever he works next, they will be extremely fortunate to have someone of his capabilities.
“We all respect his decision and thank him for the work he has done, not just since we arrived, but before that also.”
Morgans will stay on as fitness and conditioning coach for Wales up to and including Euro 2016.
