Such is the chronic nature of Liverpool’s injury crisis that they’ve got nowhere left to turn. Jurgen Klopp, like the kid who’s got last pick in the playground, has no choice but to beckon over Senor Jose Enrique.
Enrique’s last appearance for the first team – a year ago…
For our younger readers, Enrique used to play for Liverpool Football Club. We say ‘used to’, he has remained on the payroll, but more as a kind of teeth-whitening, hoverboard-riding mascot – like Fred the Red.
Now the former fullback is being drafted in to play in the centre of defence for the actual Liverpool first team. It may ‘only’ be Exeter City in the third round of the FA Cup, but the fans are beside themselves…
