Liverpool fans question why Jurgen Klopp hasn’t moved for Alvaro Arbeloa

It’s not uncommon for football fans to suffer from a bit of transfer deadline day desperation, and it seems some Liverpool fans are experiencing precisely that with time running out for the club to pick up a new left back.

Since Alberto Moreno’s nightmarish second-half in the Europa League final last May, it was widely expected that Jurgen Klopp would prioritise a new left back over the summer. However, with hours remaining before the transfer window closes, it seems Klopp – who recently fielded James Milner in the position – has not plans to strengthen the left side of his defence.

Many of those who hold Liverpool dear to their heart are concerned:

One option that almost no Liverpool supporter had considered until today was former full-back Alvaro Arbeloa. The Spaniard left Liverpool in 2009 for Real Madrid and was released at the end of the season, making him a free agent.

Although he played predominantly as a right back during his time on Merseyside, news that the 33-year-old had entered talks with West Ham was enough to prompt some Liverpool supporters to question why Klopp hadn’t made a move for him.

Although his age means that he’s almost certainly not the same player that left the club for Madrid seven years ago, it’s hard to argue why Klopp *wouldn’t* have moved to bring him back to the club – especially on a free.

Get used to plenty more of James Milner at left back, Reds.
