“If the Hollywood script writers wrote this they’d get laughed out of town.”

Joe Cole was on cloud nine following Andriy Yarmolenko’s extra-time winner for West Ham United against Sevilla at the London Stadium on Thursday night.

The Ukrainian star, scored to put the Hammers 2-1 up on aggregate as they went on to qualify for the quarter-final of the Europa League.

Yarmolenko, 32, has two goals in five days for West Ham despite the personal hardship he had to endure due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Joe Cole was ‘lost for words’ at the London Stadium.

Cole was left speechless following Yarmolenko’s 112th-minute winning goal.

The former England international described the London Stadium’s atmosphere as something he had never seen before.

The 40-year-old described the romantic element that Yarmolenko’s goal provided and praised the job that manager David Moyes has done for the Hammers.

“If the Hollywood script writers wrote this they’d get laughed out of town. Yarmolenko through what he has been through to score the winning goal, it’s beyond Hollywood. It’s beautiful,” Cole told BT Sport.

“I’ve never seen a stadium as rocking as this in all of my life-time, I promise you. I’m lost for words. This goes beyond football, he had to go get his family out of the country, and he’s done it for his team-mates and himself.

“This is romantic football and this is what we all love about it. I’m blown away by it. David Moyes deserves everything he gets. The renaissance man, they called him the Moyesiah.”

The former Hammers striker emphasised the significance of Yarmolenko’s goal – with the Ukrainian International’s winner sending London Stadium into hysterics.

“I’m still lost for words, I was almost crying. I didn’t even cry for my two sons’ birth. I was almost in tears, honestly.

“This is massive! I can’t believe it. Yarmolenko, what a man, what a story. What a player.”
