“If they’re good enough, they’re old enough,” Sir Matt Busby once famously said.
To many of the club’s supporters, they’ve seen enough of Andreas Pereira to think that he is good enough for the Manchester United first team, despite having only just turned 20.
Having caught the eye with a stunning solo effort for Brazil at the Under-20 World Cup last year, many suggested that Pereira would feature regularly for the United first team this season.
He marked a Capital One Cup start against Ipswich earlier in the season with an impressive free-kick, but other than a few as a substitute appearances, Pereira has failed to break into a struggling United team.
Having appeared as a substitute once more in the victory over Sheffield United in the FA Cup, Pereira has admitted that he is frustrated by his lack of first team action.
“Of course you want to play every game, I was on the bench but I came on and I wanted to help my team but hopefully next time,” he told the Manchester Evening News.
“It is frustrating but I must get used to being able to handle these sorts of things.
“You have to keep waiting for your opportunity and working hard. That’s what I’m doing. We were happy that we won, but now we’re focused on the next game on Tuesday.”
With Adnan Januzaj returning to the club after a disappointing spell at Borussia Dortmund ending prematurely, Pereira could now find himself even further down the pecking order at the club.
