This may well be the biggest – and most contentious – transfer of the coming summer.
Alexis Sanchez has displayed his clear frustrations at the desperate fortunes at Arsenal on more than one occasion of late. The Chilean has been described as being varying degrees of spoiled brat and born winner for being so expressive in his displeasure, with some of his cartoonish behaviour resembling a certain Portuguese who used to ply his trade at Old Trafford some years ago.
Arsenal fans have been quite rightly concerned about about what this could mean for the player’s long-term future at the Emirates, and whether he feels that the club can match his ambitions under Arsene Wenger. At 28 years of age, the muscular forward will know that it is make or break time in his career regarding major honours and one last big bumper pay day.
Now, according to the Guardian, Chelsea are ready to test the players resolve by making him their number one target for the summer. The broadsheet reports that Antonio Conte has told club’s recruitment team, headed by director Marina Granovskaia and technical director Michael Emenalo, that Sanchez and a left-sided defender are the priorities.
The disgruntled miniature hero is demanding a pay hike from £130,000 to £250,000 a week from Arsenal, but with Chelsea – as well as Juventus and PSG – knocking at his door, money may no longer be his only consideration. Especially as the Gunners currently lie 5th in the league table and outside of the Champions League places.
