Graeme Souness takes issue with Gary Neville’s off-camera remark about Liverpool

Gary Neville was far from happy as Kelly Cates, Jame Carragher and Graeme Souness all revelled in Liverpool's record-breaking victory over Manchester United, at Anfield. Jürgen Klopp's side thrashed United 7-0 to boost their top four hopes and all but end the rival's outside hopes of a title challenge. Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo all scored twice, with Roberto Firmino making it seven in the closing stages. It was an utterly abject and pitiful United performance and former club captain Roy Keane summed it up well, post-match, when he described their efforts as 'shocking and embarrassing'. Keane looked deflated in the Sky Sports studio by the time Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher returned from the commentary gantry. Fellow pundit Graeme Souness was bouncing in his shoes, though, and had a score (or seven) to settle with Neville. Graeme Souness calls out Gary Neville

Even before the former Manchester United defender reached the Sky studio, Graeme Souness had declared, "Where's Gary Neville?" Ahead of the game, Neville and Keane had been close to giggling on-air when Souness predicted Liverpool would 'win comfortably'. After the Reds' 7-0 win, the Scot called out Neville.

SOUNESS: Gary put it on me, at the start of the show, when I said I thought Liverpool would win comfortably. Gary said, off-air, that he didn't think Liverpool played well today." NEVILLE: I didn't say that. SOUNESS: What did you say? NEVILLE: I said in the first half that I thought United were the better team. In the second half, it was all about United's capitulation. SOUNESS: So that had nothing to do with Liverpool playing well?

Neville attempted to argue that Klopp would not say Liverpool were fully back and firing, only for Souness, leaning into Carragher, to ask his fellow pundit to admit the hosts played well.
