Evan Ferguson has signed a new five year deal with Brighton and Hove Albion after a brilliant breakout season for the Seagulls.
The Republic of Ireland striker, 18, has scored eight goals in 19 appearances for the club in the current campaign, and has attracted interest from clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea.
Ferguson, however, wisely opted to remain with Roberto De Zerbi’s team. The Italian coach has promised to turn him into one of the best centre-forwards in Europe.

“Evan’s contract extension is great news,” De Zerbi told Brighton’s website after Ferguson’s new contract was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
“He trains and plays like a senior player with many years of experience and has become an important member of the squad.
“The aim is to help him become one of the strongest strikers in Europe.”
That last line will pique the interest of Ireland supporters, who have been starved of an elite-level striker since Robbie Keane retired.
Ireland also haven’t had a world-class player since Roy Keane.
Yet, De Zerbi, one of the most exciting coaches in world football, believes that he has the potential to be among the best centre-forwards in the sport.
Ferguson’s potential is evident. The former Bohemians striker is a clinical finisher, capable of scoring with both feet and his head. He is a strong dribbler, comfortable linking play and a hard worker.
He appears to have all the attributes required to succeed at the highest level of football.

Evan Ferguson’s potential.
The Irish striker only turned 18 last October and is in his first full season in the Brighton team, but his absence was felt during Brighton’s FA Cup semi-final against Man United last Sunday.
The Seagulls lost the match on penalties and De Zerbi noted that Ferguson, who is currently injured, could have made the difference in the match at Wembley.

“Brighton have the right conditions for young players and he is 18, we mustn’t forget that,” he said.
“He is playing very well. Man United was bad for us without him, because he has different qualities, can give us different solutions in the last 20 metres.”
