Ten Heg is thought to be United’s preferred candidate
Manchester United’s dressing room is reportedly split over the potential appointment of Erik ten Hag as the club’s next permanent manager.
The Dutchman is thought to be United’s preferred candidate for the role and impressed in his recent interview with the Red Devils. United would also only have to pay £1.7million to release Ten Hag from his contract with Ajax.
However, Manchester Evening News have reported that, while several players are excited by the prospect of being coached by Ten Hag, others believe that the 52-year-old is viewed as an ‘underwhelming’ choice.

Underwhelming. It is a word that easily sums up the current crop of United players, and this 2021/22 campaign.
Ten Hag is thought to be on a shortlist alongside Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has also met with United officials. The report adds that the former Tottenham Hotspur boss was the favoured pick among the majority of players two months ago.
The mood in the United camp is far from ideal at the minute and it was worsened by the disappointing 1-1 draw with Leicester City at the weekend. The Red Devils dropped to seventh in the Premier League table after West Ham’s victory over Everton on Sunday.
Ten Hag drops Man United hint
The Dutchman described United as a ‘great club with great fans’ in an interview last week, which came after his reported interview with the Red Devils hierarchy.
“Everyone knows each other in the industry,” Ten Hag told Sport1.
“There are always talks with representatives from other clubs, that’s normal. Manchester United is a great club with great fans. But I can only repeat myself: My full focus is completely on Ajax. We are already planning for the new season.”
Rangnick suggests Pochettino has been interviewed
Interim boss Rangnick indicated the club had interviewed more than one candidate for the managerial post, which the MEN suggest is Pochettino.
“I know they have spoken to some people but so far we haven’t spoken about the experience and the impressions they have got from those meetings,” said Rangnick
“It’s not an issue for me. For me, it’s important to focus on the next games.”
United travel to Goodison Park to face-off against relegation-threatened Everton on Saturday April 9.
