He might well have missed out on the PFA Player of the Year, but West Ham’s Dimitri Payet just knew he’d be *bagging* the awards at West Ham’s end of season do… literally.

The Frenchman has taken the Premier League by storm this season, playing a pivotal role in a strong season for Slaven Bilic’s men and establishing himself as a firm favourite amongst the Hammers support.

In an interview that will appear in West Ham’s matchday programme, Payet’s teammate Andy Carroll has revealed that the former Marseille man was so confident that he would be securing a prize or two at Tuesday’s awards night, he brought a suitcase along. He explained:

“One of the lads said, ‘Why have you brought that suitcase in?’

“And Dimi said, ‘Well that’s for all my awards!’ We all knew he wasn’t going to win just one award – but he was confident as well!”

In the end, the 29-year-old collected five awards, making his decision to bring along a suitcase completely vindicated.
