Diego Maradona brands Louis van Gaal “the devil” for his treatment of Radamel Falcao

So they don't like each other then

There are simply not enough references to The Waterboy in football reporting. There, we said it!

But, thanks to Maradona, we get to break out a classic “       is the devil” after the Argentine legend revealed that he’s not the biggest fan of Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

At a press conference in Bogota to promote a charity game, Maradona said: “Van Gaal is not a nice guy. Van Gaal is closer to the devil than anything.”

Maradona was speaking about the Dutchman’s treatment of Colombia star Radamel Falcao who has struggled to recapture the form he showed at Porto, Atletico Madrid and Monaco since his summer loan move to Manchester United.

Injury has plagued the 29-year-old who was forced to withdraw from Colombia’s World Cup squad last summer and Maradona, who many believe to be the best footballer of all time, reckons he just needs time to settle.

“His time was cut short after the injury and he has to adapt to the move,” Maradona added.

But the Argentine’s comments will be unlikely to sway van Gaal’s decision on whether or not to make Falcao’s presence at Old Trafford a permanent one because LvG is about as fond of the striker as Maradona is of a night in with a salad.
