David Meyler was never going to be a free agent for too long.
Republic of Ireland international David Meyler had a rough exit from Hull City at the end of last season.
Meyler was a five-and-a-half-year Tigers veteran but announced his shock exit at the conclusion of the last Championship campaign. Hull finished a very lacklustre 18th in the league, winning just 11 of 46 games. Five points behind that in the 20th spot is Reading, whom Meyler signed on a two-year deal on Tuesday.
It will all be made official once the Cork native’s contract at his old club expires. But right now, it’s clear Reading are happy with their new man. Manager Paul Clement had the following to say about his new recruit:
“I am very happy to welcome David to the club as our second signing of the summer. He comes here with a lot of experience at this level but also the level above and with his ability and his leadership qualities, David is going to add a lot to our squad.”

Jesus Reading, save some Irish players for the other clubs
There is already a very strong Irish contingent at Reading. Stephen Quinn, Liam Kelly and Josh Barrett are all in the first-team squad captained by the one and only Paul McShane. Plus, it has been reported that recent Republic of Ireland retiree John O’Shea has agreed to join the Royals.
