Conor Masterson one of three Liverpool youngsters set for Merseyside derby

“Unbelievable.”

That was the reaction of 19-year-old Irish defender Conor Masterson to his experience on the Liverpool bench for their Champions League victory over Manchester City, on Wednesday.

The former Lucan United player has been doing well within the Reds’ underage set-up but was promoted to a sub’s role after injuries befell several senior defenders.

Masterson did not get onto the Anfield pitch but may get a chance to run out against Everton at Goodison Park, on Saturday.

Liverpool Echo is reporting that Masterson is one of three young players to have been pulled from the side’s U23 squad for the Friday night game against Arsenal.

The Ireland underage star is now in line for inclusion in Liverpool’s squad for the Premier League clash with Everton, along with midfielder Curtis Jones and attacking talent Rafa Camacho.

17-year-old Camacho was signed from City two years back and Reds legend Steven Gerrard has tipped him for a bring future, with great potential to be an attacking wing back.

As for Masterson, he will be hoping to get a run out in what will be a keenly contested Merseyside derby. Liverpool are 10 clear of 5th place Chelsea, who have a game in hand, but their focus will be on overtaking second placed Manchester United, as well as seeing off their local rivals.
