How things change in football.
There was a time when Chelsea fans and others were hailing Thibaut Courtois as potentially the best young goalkeeper in the world. He was seen as a freak of nature; a brilliantly composed and talented stopper who was already world-class in his early twenties. It was only a matter of time before he usurped the legendary Gianluigi Buffon.
Such was the esteem in which he was held that Petr Cech, a loyal and fine servant to Chelsea, was seen as being surplus to requirements. In fact the relatively veteran keeper was flogged to fierce rivals Arsenal and no one really found issue with that decision. After all, who needs Cech when you have Courtois?
Fast-forward to the present day and the answer seems to be Chelsea Football Club – that’s according to their own supporters anyway. Following their 3-0 trouncing at the hands of Arsene Wenger’s team at the weekend, fingers (and F-words) are being pointed at the now ‘fucking shit’ Courtois.
There are a number of Blues who are openly admitting that selling Cech to Arsenal was a huge mistake, and instead they’re left with a ‘lanky twat’ ‘fuckboy’ Courtois, who is making noises about returning to La Liga soon anyway. Here’s just some of the fallout from the weekend’s flaps. Poor Thibaut…
