Celtic striker’s astoundingly sound gesture saves Christmas for burglarised family

Leigh Griffiths to the rescue

Leigh Griffith’s has restored our faith in humanity with this incredibly touching gesture

Disaster struck for an Edinburgh family this week. With just seven days to go until Christmas, Michael Wright awoke to find that his house had been burgled and all the presents he had bought for his five-year-old son were missing.

However, just as the family were facing the prospect of having Christmas ruined by the terrible act, a miracle happened. Wright, who is a die hard Hearts fan and a season ticket holder was contacted on Facebook by Leigh Griffiths. Despite playing for rival club Celtic, Griffiths offered to pay to replace every one of the presents for Wright’s son that was stolen.

As Wright pointed in the subsequent Facebook post, he didn’t know Griffiths personally, which really shows the effort the striker made to get in contact with him. Wright added that he not only hated Celtic, until his amazing act of generosity, he also hated Griffiths. Well he’s certainly changed his opinion of the striker now.

It’s stories like this that really put things into perspective. It’s fantastic to see that human decency can still triumph over meaningless (in the grand scheme of things) football rivalries.
