What. A. Hit.
Stoke won 2-0 on Tuesday night as they knocked Huddersfield Town out of the Carabao Cup at the bet365 Stadium.
Both of the home side’s goals were memorable for entirely different reasons, too.
Their opener came courtesy of Saido Berahino – a man who had not scored a goal in 48 games and 913 days. With James McClean thumping a shot against a post, the rebound fell kindly for the former West Brom striker to head home, the ball looping in a rather fortuitous fashion.
That had seemed likely to be the only goal of the game.
This, however, was not the case.
Those that had bothered to wait around until the seventh minute of added-on time were in for a treat: a dipping volley from near halfway which left the Huddersfield goalkeeper with absolutely no chance. Although that might already sound like a hell of a goal, it’s made all the more impressive when you consider the fact it was scored by a Huddersfield player.
With Stoke clearing the ball to just inside the Terriers’ half, Juninho Bacuna stuck out a right leg and inadvertently looped the ball over goalkeeper Jonas Lössl.
Lössl was a good distance from his goal at this point, and stood no chance of catching the ball as it skidded off the surface and rolled towards his goal.
