Arsenal’s website mistakenly calls Aubameyang the club’s second signing of the January window

Aubameyang is Arsenal’s third, not second, signing of the January transfer window.

Arsenal’s media team haven’t had the greatest 24 hours. After accidentally jumping the gun by posting a video on their official website confirming the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on Tuesday night, the actual article announcing the player’s arrival was accompanied by another pretty major mistake.

In confirming the deal for Aubameyang, the club’s website read:

“The 28-year-old has joined us from Borussia Dortmund on a long-term contract for a club-record fee. Our second signing of the January transfer window, Auba is one of the world’s most highly-rated strikers.”

Of course, that isn’t correct. With Aubameyang, Arsenal have now signed three players this month: Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

So, assuming that they have remembered the more high-profile recruit in Mkhitaryan, the club’s website has seemingly forgotten that they signed the Greek defender Mavropanos four weeks ago.

The Gunners wrapped up the £2.2m deal for Mavropanos on January 4th and, while Arsene Wenger had originally planned to loan the youngster back out, he has stayed put in his new home at the Emirates Stadium.

However, he’s probably not feeling too great right about now after being overlooked on the Arsenal website. His consolation can be that at least the official Premier League website acknowledged him as an Arsenal January signing, as you can see in the image below.

At least someone got it right.
