Man United finally set to sell a player to big-spending Saudi club

Manchester United look set to finally sell an unwanted player to a club in Saudi Arabia, with Alex Telles in talks with Al-Nassr about signing for the Saudi Pro League side.

So far this summer, several Premier League clubs have sold players to clubs in the division, using the league as a way to generate transfer fees for high-earning players who are past their best, or to move on squad players who are surplus to requirements.

Chelsea, for example, have sold Kalidou Koulibaly (Al Hilal) and Edouard Mendy (Al Ahli) to clubs in the Saudi Pro League, and more big-money transfers are expected before the Premier League season begins on August 12.

Man United, however, have yet to take advantage of the Saudi Arabian league as a way to overhaul their squad and raise transfer funds – until now, it seems.,

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are in talks with Al-Nassr – Cristiano Ronaldo’s club – about a transfer for Alex Telles.

The Brazilian full-back, 30, is under contract until the end of next season, with the option of a further year.

Telles joined Man United from Porto in 2020 but has never been a regular at Old Trafford.

He has played 50 times in total for the Red Devils and spent last season on loan with Sevilla, where he made 38 appearances and won the Europa League.

If he were to remain at Old Trafford next season, Telles would be third choice left-back in Erik Ten Hag’s squad, behind Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

However, he looks to have played his final game for the Manchester club. The potential transfer fee has not yet been reported.

The move would be welcomed by Man United fans, as the club has been notoriously poor at selling players.

The club also needs to sell players before they can re-enter the transfer market and make any more new signings, after signing Mason Mount and agreeing on a deal with Inter Milan for Andre Onana.
