The next step of a remarkable career.

If this is the end of Katie Taylor’s amateur boxing days, by God she goes having done a pretty decent job. The best of jobs.

  • 6 golds in the European Amateur Championships.
  • 5 golds in the European Union Amateur Championships.
  • Gold in the European Games.
  • Gold in the Olympic Games.
  • 5 golds and 1 bronze in the World Amateur Championships.
  • A legacy never to be matched.

Professional boxing, are you ready for Katie Taylor?

The Bray wonder is said to be turning pro and is prepared to step into the ring as early as November 26. SunSport are reporting that Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn has been chasing the 30-year-old’s signature for some time and has succeeded in signing her up for the Sky Sports event in London at the end of next month.

“While it is as yet unclear if she has signed over her long-term future to the Matchroom chief, she will take her place on his show in England’s capital in four weeks’ time,” Kevin Byrne wrote in The Irish Sun.

“Light-welterweight Tommy Coyle will headline in a bout against John Wayne Hibbert, with support from fellow Hearn fighters including Conor Benn and Martin Ward.

“And Sky Sports — a long-term sponsor of Taylor — will televise the scraps.”

It is with huge interest that the Irish legend prepares to take this next step in her boxing career and she has already had to deny claims that she was back training in her father’s gym.

The 60kg fighter is yet to be linked with a first opponent as a professional but, if it goes anything like her amateur stint went, she might be alright…
